UNT Class Ring

Official UNT Ring

The official UNT Class Ring represents a rite of passage and scholastic accomplishment at the University of North Texas. The official UNT ring is a popular university tradition dating back more than 50 years. Wearing your ring signals to fellow Eagles and the community that you are Mean Green for life.

Students who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours are eligible to purchase a ring and participate in the Official Ring Presentation Ceremony during the fall and spring semesters. It is never too late to take pride owning your Official UNT Ring, so alumni are also welcome to order rings and attend the UNT Ring Ceremony.

Official UNT rings are hand-crafted from quality materials right here in Denton by our ring partner Jostens. A portion of each ring sale goes toward UNT student scholarships.

UNT Ring Ceremony

The Official UNT Ring Presentation Ceremony is a meaningful milestone for UNT students and thier families. Each fall and spring semester, more than 800 students gather in the UNT Library Mall t0 receive their rings and symbolicly immerse them in the spirit and traditions of the University of North Texas.

Before the ceremony, each student selects a family member or loved one to participate in the ceremony. To honor that special guest for his or her support along the student's UNT journey, the loved one presents the ring to the recipient for the first time. Students and families then gather for a short program to learn the meaning of the ring's official symbols.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, students simultaniously submerge their rings in the Library Mall fountains as McConnell Tower is illumniated to celebrate the students' academic victory. This emotional moment connects ring recipients to generations of UNT students and reminds us that we are all one Mean Green family.

The ceremony is an invitation-only event for students who have purchased official rings by the semester's order deadline. Details for the next Ring Presentation Ceremony are below.

Symbols of the UNT Ring

    • The top of the UNT ring is adorned with the Lone Star, representing our great state, and an optional green stone – our school color since 1903.

    • One side of the ring features our University seal. The University seal includes the lamp of learning, symbolizing academic achievement and our continuous pursuit of excellence; elements of the State of Texas seal-the Lone Star, encircled by olive and live oak branches. . . signifying peace and strength, respectively.

    • At the bottom of the UNT seal rests the year of our University’s founding. . .1890.

    • Below the seal, our official mascot, the soaring Eagle, is shown with wings spread from side to side. Its talons are shown, to which we pay tribute through our eagle claw hand signal, representing our pride and unity.

    • The McConell Tower, rising above the Hurley Administration Building, is featured on the opposite side of the ring.

    • The hands of the first clock face on the tower are set at one o’clock, honoring the internationally recognized One O’Clock Lab Jazz Band.

    • The hands of the second face are set at seven o’clock, recalling the evening curfew for students at Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute in 1892.

    • While you are a student, it is tradition to wear the ring with the “University of North Texas” name facing toward you prior to graduation; reminding you of your goals and achievements on the horizon. At your graduation ceremony, your ring will be turned around when you move your tassel, for the world to see that you are a graduate of UNT.
